Spent: $55.00
Earned: $8 (I finished Spring Sunshine Line!)
Carry-Over: $3

Hi all,

I felt like I spent a lot the past two months, so I'm honestly surprised I'm still in the black! A substantial portion of my spending was for finishing supplies, so I was happy to reread the SFS rules and discover that didn't count towards my spending. : )

As it is nearing the end of summer, I bought a couple patterns to try to finish before Christmas. This will be my first Christmas at my home because previously I was 12 hours away from my family and would travel a week at Christmas to see them, so decorating at my own place felt unnecessary. Now after the move, I am less than an hour from my family, so I get to decorate!! To begin my decorating, I purchased a couple items at my favorite online stitchy store's Christmas in July sale.

The first is a Santa ornament, "Cozy Christmas Santa" by Jim Shore/Mill Hill:

Eventually I want to purchase and stitch the whole set, but I started with this one because I love the quilted look of his robes.

I also purchased another Christmas pattern by the same designer, "Snowman":

And, like the Santa ornaments, I would love to stitch this set as well (there are four in the set: snowman, Santa, reindeer, and tree.)

And my biggest purchase of the month, which I cannot believe did not end up breaking my Stitch from Stash bank, was an item that has been at the top of my wishlist for almost two years, and which I KNEW I would buy eventually, but it is a rather pricey kit (for my budget) and I had decided to wait until I finished another one of my bigger projects. But then I found out two weeks ago that it was being discontinued, and luckily I was able to find it from a seller (with a discount!) before it disappeared from the marketplace completely:

This is "Art Nouveau by Mucha-primrose" by Lanarte. I love love love this artwork, and this design. I was also very excited to discover that although the kit lists 14 ct Aida as the fabric, it is in fact 28 ct evenweave inside. I am trying to restrain myself from starting: I am trying not to grow beyond my 8 WIPs (which, let's face it, is what I said at 4 and 5 and 6), but 8 really is enough for me, and is the perfect number for my new rotation.

Speaking of my rotation, this week my focus piece was the baby sampler for my future niece, which I am happy to say is not only finished, it is a FFO! I finished it on the day she was born:

Obviously, the pink ribbons in the center of the blanket are digital (covering up her name and birth date). I really enjoyed creating this: I love the 3-D effect, and all the different special details made out of ribbon, beads, metallics, and memory thread. I mounted the stitched "clothes line" pieces on a burlap backing I found at Walmart (already mounted on a frame), and used lace on the corners to fancy it up a little. I have several of Brooke's Books Spirit Angel Ornaments, and I loved creating this so much (the final touches were almost even more fun than the stitching), that I will definitely be working on one of the ornaments in the near future.

And - whew! - I have written a lot! Thank you all for reading and your comments, and I look forward to reading your posts this month!

I started this on July 8, and hope to have it finished (except for the date of birth, etc.) before she is born. I have about half of the pieces stitched so far, so it'll be close: her due date is in late August.

I began my second start right before the baby sampler arrived. I wanted to practice stitching on perforated paper because I'd never stitched on paper before, so I decided to start my first Mill Hill kit, "Snowfall" on July 2:
Spent: $33.39
Earned: $0 (I had a finish, but it was from a pattern I bought in February, so not quite 6 months ago!)
Carry-Over: ($68.82 previous + $25 this month - $33.39 spent this month) = $60.43 left over from my budget from the last six months. Not too bad: this group has really helped me keep track of and manage my spending habits! My goal for the next half of the year will be to finish more projects. :)

This month's spending was entirely on a gift I will be stitching for my future sister-in-law and her second child, who is due at the end of August. (She isn't a blog reader, so I can share!) I stitched a baby sampler for her first child, and decided I will stitch one for all future nieces and nephews as well.

The theme for the nursery is vintage, with pastels, and I found a lovely birth sampler pattern by Brooke Nolan (Brooke's Books) which fits the theme and color scheme perfectly:

"Spring Baby Girl Sunshine Line"

Just waiting for the chartpack to arrive in the mail! Also included in the total spending listed above are the specialty threads I purchased for the pattern (some Kreinik braid and ribbon, and DMC memory thread) from my favorite online stitchy store. I'm very excited to stitch this! I have a few Brooke's Books patterns, and I love how intricate and three-dimensional they are. I was planning to stitch one of her spirit angel ornaments this year, but it looks like that one will be saved for later so I can work on this and hopefully get it finished before the baby arrives!

In terms of stitching this month, I finished "Tree Frog Trio," (yay!), and therefore got a new start.

I started "The Balloon" (a Gorjuss/Bothy Threads design). I only have a small portion of it stitched right now (I'll upload a pic in my WIPocalypse post), but this is what it will look like finished:

It's the summer! Woot! I graduated, moved, and just settled into a real-life, full-time job. This is my first week working, but I must say I'm already loving having evenings free...no more homework or piles of grading waiting for me when I get home at night!

I didn't make quite as much progress as last month on my stitching, but I did have a finish and a new start. : )

I included this pic of my finish in my SFS post, but here is "Aurora Cabin" again:

I still love this piece as much (if not more) than when I first received the kit, and I'm so happy to see it finished...and it only took me six years haha!

Because I finished this, I got to start a new WIP to fill that slot in my rotation. Since all my other projects are quite large, I chose "Tree Frog Trio" (Dimensions) to provide some variety, and so that I don't have to wait several months for another finish! It shouldn't take me long at all; I've already gotten one of the three frogs completed:
Are you more productive stitching in winter or summer?
I am more productive in the summer, I think, just because I have a bit more free time without holiday traveling, etc. Plus I have always been in school during the winter: this will be my first year since age 3 that I will not be in school, so I may end up getting a bit more cross stitching done, in addition to wedding planning! I actually don't think I have written about this in any of my previous posts, but my now-fiance proposed in March and we are looking at dates in fall of 2016 for the wedding...so excited! :)

I have decided to update my WIPocalypse goals from the beginning of the year to reflect the projects I have started ("Autumn Sampler" and "Tree Frog Trio," instead of the original projects I had listed.) I will post my updated goals in a day or two.

Happy Stitching! : )
Spent: $0
Earned: $15 (I finished "Aurora Cabin" (Dimensions Gold): I completed one page full coverage since January, about half of which was tent stitch, but I also stitched the backstitching, couching, and French knots for the whole design, so I figure all of that equates to $15? )
Carry-Over: $28.82+ $25 this month+$15 for finish = $68.82

And...here is my finish! : )
This was my oldest WIP (I started it in 2009), so it's very exciting to see it completed! I love the finished effect of all the french knot stars. : ) I will post an updated picture once it is framed!

Happy Stitching!

It's finally May: whew! I graduate this coming weekend, have job interviews lined up (fingers crossed!) and move at the end of the month! We are moving into a bigger place, so I am looking forward to having a designated space for stitchy stuff...I may post photos of it once I get it set up over the summer. : )

Despite the continued crazy, this month was a little less hectic than March, and I was able to stick to my rotation, working on all 6 of my WIPs!

My most recent start, "Autumn Sampler" (Janlynn), only had a few stitches in it at the time of my last post:

But after 5 evenings of stitching it actually is beginning to look like something:

I have never stitched a sampler style pattern like this before, and I love it! It just seems to move so quickly because it is not a full coverage pattern, and each section is like a mini finish. Really enjoyed working on this project this month: it was difficult to put it down!
You can't really see it in this picture, but I got to work with some Kreinik #4 braid for the first time, adding some sparkle to the edges of her tail: very pretty but I understand why people dislike working with it! I think the final result will be worth it though. : )
Can you believe it's April already?! March has been a bit crazy with school and work: I picked up several additional hours at my second job, and was working like a madwoman on my final thesis draft (which I defended on Friday, and passed, whew!) Because I had such limited stitchy time, I abandoned my usual rotation and just stitched on what was calling to me at the moment, which ended up being 2 of my WIPs. I finished one, so I also got a new start. : ) Hopefully this month things will slow down a little and I will be able to resume my rotation!

The first WIP I worked on, "Winter Friend," I ended up finishing: my first finish of 2015!
I posted a picture of it earlier in the month, but here it is again:
I will post another picture when I get it framed. Because I finished this, I also put a few stitches in on a new start, "Autumn Sampler" by Janlynn:

So close to completing the cross stitch on this! Once that is done, there is a bit of backstitching in the cabin, rocks, and trees, and several french knots for the stars. I'm hoping it will be a finish before I move in June! : )

The question for this post is: Which specialty stitches do you love doing on projects? Which do you dread?
My knowledge of specialty stitches is fairly limited, and I plan to learn more: besides all the variations of the standard cross stitch, I know backstitching, french knots, couching, and satin stitch. My favorite is probably backstitching simply because I like the way it can make a pattern like "Winter Friend" come to life, and it progresses so much more quickly than cross stitch! I don't really have any that I dread (probably because I don't know that many yet): I know many people dislike French Knots, but I have never really had a problem with them, although I do want to improve my technique because my knots are not always the same size..."Aurora Cabin" should give me some needed practice. : )

Here's to hoping I get some solid time in on all of my WIPs this month!
Happy Stitching! : )Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-66875882761305684542015-03-27T20:14:00.000-07:002015-03-27T20:17:33.607-07:00Stitch from Stash: MarchMonth: March
Spent: $12.98 (Kreinik and Mill Hill beads)
Earned: $0
Carry-Over: $14.38 + $12.02 this month = $26.40

I did have a finish this month: "Winter Friend" (picture is in my previous post), but I purchased it in October and started stitching it in November, so it doesn't count as a finish from stash. But it is one more WIP complete! : )

I was lucky enough this month to be the winner in a giveaway hosted by Carolyn Mazzeo, a wonderful Floss Tuber who has some really helpful tutorials on parking and the pinhead stitch (if you're interested!) The prize was a gift certificate to one of my favorite online stitchy stores, and I decided to use it to kit up the Spirit of Holiday Giving Angel Ornament (Brooke's Books):

I love the 3D nature of these ornament designs, which despite being labelled "ornaments", are pretty sizeable (5"x7"). I plan on stitching her this winter, and will probably use her as a windowsill/bookshelf decoration, rather than a tree ornament. I purchased the Kreinik, beads, and perforated paper for the design with the gift certificate plus $12,98 of my own (this is all I spent this month), so all I have left to purchase to completely kit this up is the DMC.

I will post updates of my progress on my WIPs next week! Happy Stitching!

My first finish of 2015! Started Nov 18, 2014. Finished today, just shy of 4 months old!

Please forgive the hoop marks, I was too excited to wait for the iron. : )

This project had several firsts for me: it was my first Bothy Threads kit, my first time working with Lana and light effects thread, as well as using ribbon in a cross stitch design.
She is also the first project I have completed for myself. I will post another picture once she is pressed and framed!

A finish also means I get to start something new today (yay!), and I have chosen "Autumn Sampler" by Janlynn. It will look like this when complete:

I really like the colors and detail of this design! I will post my progress on it in my April WIPocalypse update.

We got 3" of snow and ice yesterday and today, which in TN means everything shut down, so I got a welcome break from school, and some extra stitchy time! : ) Here is my progress on my WIPs for the month (I made myself some needleminders this month too, and left them on so you can see!)

The question for this month is:
If money – and time – were not limiters, what projects would be on your stitching bucket list?

Oh, so many projects, I would be stitching for hundreds of years. : )
I definitely want to stitch at least one of the Chatelaine mandalas in my lifetime, my favorite being the Hummingbird Sparkly Garden Mandala. There are also several HAED patterns I would stitch, especially those by Josephine Wall (Psyche's Dream, Fly Me to the Moon) and Aimee Stewart (Dance like a Dervish, Butterfly Ball), and a whole bunch of Mirabilias!

Total Spent: $24.97
($18.90 on "Indian Peacock", $5.99 for "Tree Frog Trio" and 8 cents (!), for Carousel Horses in Cross Stitch)
Earned: $0
Total Carry-Over to March: $14.38 ($14.35 carry over from January + $0.03 carry over from February)

Yes, this month, I spent almost my entire budget. :P But I spent it on pretty patterns!
At the start of the year, I was determined not to buy any more patterns/kit stash, and keep my spending to fabric and floss for the patterns I already own. I don't have as many patterns as some of you wonderful stitchers, but I do have enough to last me at least the next 4-5 years, so I've been trying not to accumulate too much more. I lasted a month haha.
I had a sort-of excuse: I just passed my big comprehensive exam for my master's program (whew!), so I decided to celebrate by purchasing a kit. But then I got to the store and they were having a sale! So I got two. I know, I'm terrible. : )

The first kit I got is one I have been eyeing for about six months now. It is "Indian Peacock" by Dimensions:

I love peacocks: mostly because of the colors, I think! I really like the blues on this one.

The second kit I got is for my bf: he went shopping with me, and liked the design. He is very supportive of my hobbies (the other day he asked me how my WIPs were going... he actually said "WIPs", and I about melted), but it is not often that he says he would like me to stitch a certain pattern. So of course once he said he'd like to see me stitch it, I had to get it! It is called "Tree Frog Trio," and should be a pretty quick stitch compared to what I've been working on so far this year:

I'm planning to give it to him either framed, or as a small pillow: what do you all think?

I also found a cross stitch book on Amazon used for under $2, which, after using the remaining $1 and some change that I had on a gift card, ended up at a total of 8 cents! It is Carousel Horses in Cross Stitch (Linda Gillium, Kooler Design Studio), and it has a carousel horse for each month of the year. Once it arrives, I will post a picture, and then try to decide which one I want to stitch first!

I will update you on my WIP progress in my WIPocalypse post next week!
Hi all,

I can't believe we're already into February! Things are starting to get hectic again now that we're into the third week of the semester, and I'm trying to readjust myself after the relative peacefulness of winter break. : )

I had quite a bit of progress on my WIPS in the first half of the month when I was still on break, but haven't had as much time now that school is started, so my progress is pretty much on pace with what I am usually able to get done in a month. I am hoping to have at least a couple of my WIPs completed by June so that I will have some artwork for the new place!
So, here are my before and after photos for the month of January:

The topic for this month is: How do you overcome that feeling that you’re in a rut with a particular project?

My rotation has really helped me stay focused and interested in my projects. Prior to 2014, I was a one-at-a-time stitcher for the most part, and would get bored. Now, I have 6 WIPs going at all times, so if I'm having difficulty working with one, I can put it aside for awhile and work on another.

Happy Stitching! : )

Spent: $10.65 (all on floss for my Mirabilia Stargazer, 25 skeins at $0.39 ea + tax)

Hi all,

As I mentioned in an earlier post, this year I joined Stitch from Stash, hosted by Mel at Epic Stitching:

With lots of big life changes coming up mid-year, I am trying to be careful about my finances. The goal is to spend under $25/month on cross stitch supplies, and for each finish from stash, you get extra funds to spend. Whatever you don't spend carries over each month until June.

For a WIP/finish to count as a stitch-from-stash, it has to be at least six months since you purchased the pattern. Because of this, I believe 3 of my 6 WIPs count as Stitches from Stash: "Quiet Time," "Aurora Cabin," and "The Wave."
I was gifted "Beauty and the Beast" and purchased "Winter Friend" in October and "Sleigh Ride at Dusk Stocking" in early December, so none of them count (yet...I'm pretty sure I'll still be working on both Beauty and the Beast and the stocking past the six-month mark!)

I will share pictures of my progress in my WIPocalypse post on Feb 4! : )

Also, for some reason the reply function on my account isn't working, but please know that I read and appreciate your comments, and as soon as I can get it working again, I will respond to you!

Happy New Year! Lots to be excited about for this coming year, and lots of resolutions to follow! Cross stitch resolutions are my favorite, because they are always fun to work towards, and (almost) always stress-free. To that end, I have again joined the WIPocalypse SAL, hosted by Melissa at Measi's Musings.

I'm excited to do this SAL properly this time around, and participate for the full year (since last year I didn't join until May!)

For the initial post, we introduce our projects and establish our cross stitch goals for year. I discovered last year that I get a little overly ambitious when coming up with goals (to adapt a cliché, my eyes are faster than my hands), but at least this gives me plenty to work towards!

The first six goals deal with my current WIPs (yes, I added one more to my rotation...I found I liked that number working on Christmas presents earlier in the month!), and the rest will be new starts from my stash (also joined Stitch from Stash this year, which I will be posting about in the second half of each month.)

2015 Goals:

1: Finish "Aurora Cabin" (Dimensions kit, WIP):

I've had a bit of progress on it in the last week: hopefully it will continue to progress at this rate, for a mid-year finish! :)

2: Complete 5 out of 25 pages on "Quiet Time" (HAED, WIP):

I've currently completed one full page, and part of page 2.

Only I will be stitching it on a dark blue hand-dyed opalescent fabric. I think her dress (and the stars) will really pop on a dark blue background, but I am a bit concerned that all the sparkles on such a dark fabric will overwhelm her: I was hoping for a night-sky effect, but I think I will have to stitch her face and see how it looks. If it seems like too much, I may end up purchasing a similar fabric minus the sparkles.

These will be the same as the four I made for my mom last year, but for my tree! : )
11: In June, create organized space(s) for stash and crafting in new home!

This year has a lot of unknowns for me because I graduate in May and will be moving in June, so the amount of free time I will have the second half of the year will depend on the job I am able to land (yikes!) Mid-year I may have to adjust my goals a little, depending on how much I am able to get done in the spring. But here's hoping I can get these goals completed! : )

Happy New Year to all of you! May 2015 be full of stitching!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-35106082536053675852014-12-29T09:02:00.000-08:002014-12-29T09:02:07.972-08:002014 in Cross StitchHi all,

A big thank you to those of you who have left such encouraging and helpful comments!
With 2015 only days away, I thought this would be a good time to look back at my goals for cross stitching this year, and see which I can cross off (no pun intended) my list.

For the initial post of our WIPocalypse SAL (hosted by Melissa at Measi's Musings), we were asked to come up with a list of cross stitch goals for 2014. I didn't join the SAL until the end of May, so my goals were for June-December 2014.

These were the goals from that initial post (quite ambitious for me, but I made a dent in them: 4 out of 6 reached!) I have marked those I was able to accomplish, and shown where I am with the rest. Just a warning, this is a very pic-heavy post! :P

Goal #1: finish "Checking His List" stocking: complete! Gave to my bf for Christmas. : )
Here's what it looks like all sewn up:

Goal #2: finish "Aurora Cabin": not so much, but I did make a big dent in it. This should be a finish for 2015 (knock on wood.)

I started here in May:

In addition to these goals, I started and finished one additional design, and started two other designs:

I started and finished "The Lonely Mountain: The Hobbit" from Quirkorium on Etsy as a Christmas present for my dad. This is what it looked like finished and framed:

I also started two more patterns. First, a kit that was a birthday present from my bf, "Beauty and the Beast Falling in Love" (Disney Dreams, MCG Textiles). I started it on Oct 4, and this has been my progress so far:

I also started "Winter Friend," (Gorjuss, Bothy Threads kit) on Nov 18. My progress so far:

I will post in a week or so with my goals for 2015! May your holidays be filled with stitching! :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-64703530898743487372014-12-06T10:17:00.000-08:002014-12-06T10:20:42.246-08:00Winter Stitching: Dec. WIPocalypse Check-InHi all,

I've decided to save my summary of my yearly progress on my WIPocalypse goals until the end of December, but for this check-in, I thought I'd update you on my finishes and starts since my last post.

I had 2 finishes: I finished the stitching for the final ornament in the set of 4 I am making, and finished the stocking. I also finish-finished (so far) the stocking, and 2 of the 4 ornaments. I will upload photos of these after Christmas...just in case. : )

With all my Christmas stitching completed so early (still can't believe it!), I decided to try to tackle one more stitchy Christmas present, which I will be starting once the fabric arrives on Monday! It is a pattern by Quirkorium on etsy: "The Lonely Mountain- The Hobbit." I am making it for my dad (who I think I can safely say will never read this blog, so I can share), who is a big LOTR (and Hobbit) fan, and who loves the "Misty Mountain Song" the dwarves sing (and this cross stitch has the first verse!)

I am going to stitch it on a mottled brown Aida that (I hope) will look like old parchment, instead of plain white. Hopefully, I will finish it in time (if not, he's got a January birthday), and I will upload a pic of it at the end of the month!

Additionally, all these finishes meant I got to start two of the charts that have been calling to me from my craft shelf, yay! I do a rotation of 5 WIPs, and I don't allow myself any projects beyond these 5 slots (except for this new Christmas present I just mentioned, which was a last minute decision to stitch, and therefore will technically be a 6th WIP for about a week until it's done), so with each finish, I get to start something new. I've found this helps me to finish my WIPs more quickly towards the end, because I get excited about the upcoming start!

My two starts are both from kits, mainly because I am trying to save for Christmas presents and have therefore sworn not to buy any more stitchy supplies except for those needed for gifts until 2015. But they are two patterns that I am very excited about getting to finally stitch!

The first is "The Wave" by Dimensions. This is my progress over the past two weeks:

(My apologies for the dim lighting...it's a rainy day here!)
And this is what it will look like when finished:

I got this kit back when I was in middle school, but it turned out to be too daunting a project for me at the time. I rediscovered it when I was organizing my stash earlier this year, and my bf saw it and really liked it, so I decided it would be first in line after I finished this year's presents!

The second is "Winter Friend," a Gorjuss design. I recently purchased this kit, which I think is so cute! I love the effect of all of the different threads used in it, especially the fuzzy Lana for the snowflakes!

This is two weeks progress on it:

I will post pics of all my finished Christmas presents, and my updates on the bigger WIPs I've been stitching on this year, on or around Dec. 31! Until then, happy stitching!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-43439675076688093542014-11-06T13:52:00.000-08:002014-11-06T13:52:33.598-08:00Happy Dances! WIPocalypse Check-In: November

It's time for my monthly update for the WIPocalypse SAL, hosted by Melissa at Measi's Musings: http://measi.net/measiblog/

This month, I got quite a bit done, which surprised me because it was such a busy month at work. But I managed to get my usual amount of stitching time in...I just got less sleep! :D

I had two finishes, one of which I posted about two weeks ago, but I'll post a picture of it again:

This is "Napping Kitten" by Dimensions, and will be a Christmas gift for my sister. She will be moving into her own place soon (recently graduated from college), so I figured I would give her a decoration for her new apartment!
I am planning to frame it myself, and am debating whether to use a self-stick mounting board or to tack and sew it: does anyone have any good/bad experiences with self-stick mounting boards? I've never used one but it seems so much easier, there must be some sort of catch lol!

The other finish is the third in a set of four ornaments by Kooler Design Studio I am making for my parents:

And I just started the fourth and final ornament I will be making them for this Christmas:

I worked on one other gift, a stocking for my bf, which I realized I never took a progress pic of last month! So this is the progress over the past two months:

Before:

After:
The cross-stitching is done, I just have to finish the backstitching and French knots! So I should definitely have all of these presents stitched in time for Christmas: the trick will be getting them finish-finished before then!

I also worked (a little) on some non-gift stitching.

"Aurora Cabin" progress:

This month's question is: what are your favorite and least favorite materials to use in stitching?

I don't feel like I've tried enough different types of materials to really give a definitive answer...up until this year, I stitched all my cross stitch projects on Aida (my favorite is 18 count) with DMC, which will probably always be my go-to cotton floss because I've always had good results with it and it is so widely available (and fairly inexpensive where I live, at 39 cents a skein.) This year, I've tried stitching on linen, which I really enjoy (although it's easier in the daylight than at night!), and once I finish the gifts I'm currently working on, I have a couple patterns almost kitted up that call for some silks and specialty threads, so I'll get to try some new things, which I am looking forward to!
Happy Stitching! : )

I finished "Napping Kitten" by Dimensions two days ago:

Please forgive the wrinkles, I will upload another picture once it is ironed and framed.
This is going to be a Christmas gift for my sister (who doesn't blog, so I am safe to share!)
It took me just over four months to finish this. I think this is the earliest in the year I have ever completed a stitched Christmas gift: I am usually frantically trying to finish the week before! So I am very happy that I have some time to mount and frame it.

Happy stitching!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-49268725945667812672014-10-13T22:26:00.003-07:002014-10-13T22:26:59.316-07:00WIPocalypse Check-In: OctoberBefore I begin, I must hang my head in shame since I am nearly a week late for this post (October! Where did it come from?!) Fall is my favorite season, although sadly, here in Tennessee it still feels more like summer, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for some cooler weather soon. : )

The topic for this month is: are you a Halloween or Christmas stitcher?
I am a Christmas stitcher, as the majority of my holiday projects are either Christmas-themed or future Christmas presents! I haven't stitched any Halloween pieces yet, but I have a couple in the wings for DUCJC 2015 (more info about my plan for that in an upcoming post.)

Now onto my stitchy progress (I worked on quite a few WIPs, so this post will be pretty pic-heavy!): I've managed to get a bit of stitching time in, although not quite as much as during the summer months. I've been trying to focus my attention on getting Christmas presents complete, although I have been called away more than a few times by other projects! I had 2 new starts and a finish this month.

One of my new starts was Disney's "Beauty and the Beast Falling in Love" (Kinkade), which I received for my birthday from my wonderful bf along with some extra stitching supplies that I have been in need of (bobbins, needles, a floss organizer, and a few skeins of DMC.) Needless to say, I was a very happy lady! I've put a little time into it:

The start of some pretty sky! I am excited to really delve into it in January once my gifts are completed.

My other start and finish are ornaments from the Nativity Ornaments series I am stitching up as gifts:

I finished the 2nd of 4 I am making:

and started the 3rd:

Hoping to have all four finished by Thanksgiving so I have plenty of time to finish-finish them!

Another intended Christmas gift, "Napping Kitten" went from here:

I finished the cross-stitching and am working on the backstitching: should be a finish by my next WIPocalypse post!

The stocking I am working on as a gift went from here:

To here:

Not quite as far as I had hoped for, but I think I can still get it done in time. Once "Napping Kitten" is completed in a couple weeks, I will use that extra space in my rotation to work on it.

I also put a little time into "Aurora Cabin," which went from here:

I worked on "Quiet Time," but only put a couple hundred stitches in, so I won't bother putting up a pic until I've made more progress.

And I think that's it...whew! My WIP list keeps getting longer and longer: the more I blog and read all of your blogs, the more stash I seem to accumulate, and the more starts I have! :P Looking forward to seeing everyone's progress from the past month. Happy stitching!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-6731414691950413762014-09-10T10:52:00.000-07:002014-09-10T10:52:15.533-07:00WIPocalypse Check-In: SeptemberHi all,

Can't believe it's over a week into September already! Things are getting busy again because of school, but I still managed to stitch a bit on my WIPs, especially those gifts that are (and hopefully will be finished in time!) for Christmas.

The topic for this post is: Who is your favorite person to stitch for, or do you prefer to keep your stitching yourself?
Almost all of the cross stitches I have finished so far I have given as gifts to family members/friends, with the exception of one sampler, which was a kit I received as a gift from my parents (and therefore felt weird about then giving away once I completed it.) I am currently working on a couple for myself: "Quiet Time" and "Aurora Cabin." I am not sure who I prefer to stitch for: I really like giving cross stitches as gifts, usually to my immediate family who know how much time/effort goes into stitching a piece, but picking out a pattern that I like for myself is also fun, because I can really get into what I am stitching!

This month, I worked a little on "Aurora Cabin," which went from here:

I've gotten a bit more of the sky done, although this one has taken a back seat to the gifts I'm working on, which I can share since no one else in my family blogs!

"Checking His List Stocking" went from here:

I am setting myself the slightly-ambitious goal of finishing the cross stitch by my next WIPocalypse post. That way I will have two months to backstitch and finish finish the piece!
"Napping Kitten" went from here:

Just a little bit more stitching on the top: the cross-stitching on this one should definitely be done by my next WIPocalypse post (knock on wood!)

And I had two new starts and a finish (my first for 2014, woot!!) I am making 4 nativity-themed ornaments for my parents (there are 12 total in the collection: I plan on doing 4 this year, and depending on how they are received, doing another 4 for each of the next 2 Christmases.)

I started and finished (stitching) the first ornament:

It was a nice, quick stitch: very pleasant after all of the bigger projects I have been working on!

And I started the second ornament:

I only put in about 300 stitches on "Quiet Time," so I'll wait to post a picture until I have a page finish to show you (which may not be for a few months while I finish up these presents!)

I also acquired another kit: "Let It Snow" by Mill Hill. I plan on adding it to my rotation in November once the bulk of my gifts are completed. I have only ever beaded on one other cross stitch, so I am planning on using this as a change of pace/beading practice! I have been eyeing a couple of Chatelaine's Mandalas, but I know they require a lot of beading and either one would be an immense project to take on, so I want to make sure I'm at least halfway decent at beading before I seriously consider purchasing a Chatelaine pattern.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone has been working on!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-17982514433666166492014-08-17T02:05:00.000-07:002014-08-17T02:05:07.341-07:001st Page Finish!Yes, it is obscenely late (or should I say early?), but hey, it's the weekend, and I finally finished the first page of my first HAED! : ) This is the start of "Quiet Time" by Sara Butcher:

In order to avoid lines in the finished product, I continued some colors onto the adjacent pages, so I have a small amount of pages 2 and 6 already completed.
Just gridded several other pages, and am excited to work on page 2!
Lots of fun progress to report! I've been on a crazy stitching kick, especially the last couple days now that my new patterns have arrived. I'm very ready for some new starts! : ) I am forcing myself to wait until I finish the gifts I am currently making....so difficult, but it's helping me find the motivation to work on my current WIPs. : )

The topic for this month is: Tell us about your oldest and newest WIPs.

My oldest WIP is "Aurora Cabin", which I started back in May 2009, then left it as a UFO for 4 years while I completed my undergraduate degree. I picked it back up in October 2013, and am hoping to see a finish on it by May. It is one of the patterns I am tackling as a part of WIPocalypse, and this month it went from here:
My newest WIP is "Napping Kitten" which I started in June (will be a Christmas present for my sister.) It went from here:

And, last but not least, I am working on my first HAED, "Quiet Time." I did not have a page finish, but it is about there, so hopefully I will be able to share one with you in the next couple of days!

I am thrilled because today I have absolutely nothing to do besides a little housework (when does that ever happen?) so for the rest of the day I plan on stitching, stitching, and stitching some more!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819881775168245116.post-62571177868362325902014-08-08T12:55:00.000-07:002014-08-08T13:01:38.283-07:00New Stitchy Stash! :)
Exciting stuff! :) Now that I am stitching more than in previous years, I have been keeping an eye out for new patterns I might like to stitch after I finish my current WIPs. I was lucky enough to receive some unexpected award money through the university for my thesis work, and while most of it will be going to pay for necessities and books, I decided to also treat myself to a "small" stitching shopping spree. Thanks to some awesome lightly-used finds, I was able to get a surprising amount for my budget, which made me very very very happy! This is what I ended up with:

Two books of designs by Joan Elliott: Bewitching Cross Stitch and Christmas Cross Stitch Treasures, and the Summer 2014 issue of Stoney Creek magazine (annual Christmas issue! Can you tell I have Christmas on my mind? It must be all the stitched presents I'm tackling this year.) And because I like multiple patterns in each of these collections, I shouldn't need to buy any new patterns for at least the next three years haha! (We'll see how that works out!)

Stoney Creek also has a cute Halloween pattern available for free (!!) called "A Frightful Welcome," so I ordered that along with the magazine (and decided to go ahead and purchase the fabric and glow-in-the-dark Kreinik for it as well!):

I think this might be my next new start after I finish stitching up presents for this Christmas.

Hope everyone is having a good end to the summer! It's hard to believe that school starts back in two weeks!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00019435771441548213noreply@blogger.com0
